X (formerly Twitter) users have expressed mixed reactions after a Nigerian businessman known as Scholar married a second wife just eleven months after tying the knot with his first wife — and barely a week after she gave birth to twins.
Scholar married his first wife in January 2025, welcomed twin babies on December 18, 2025, and went on to marry a second wife on December 26. He disclosed that he met his second wife on X, announcing the union with a celebratory post.
“Some people call this kind of union a Twitter gift, but I call it a Twitter blessing. Celebrate with me on Friday, 26th December. #WeMetOnTwitter,” he wrote.
The timing of the second marriage, coming before his first wedding anniversary, sparked widespread debate on the platform, with reactions ranging from admiration and support to shock and outrage.
One user, Rasheedah Hamman, commented, “No be you born twins recently?” while Oladeyemi wrote, “Arewa men’s level of brutality is 100/100.”
Others were more supportive. Najib congratulated Scholar, saying the backlash motivated him to celebrate the marriage and pray for blessings on both unions. Abdool Mohammed praised Scholar’s boldness, calling it the dream of many men, while Abdulahi questioned why strangers were scrutinizing his personal choices, urging critics to wish him well and move on.
Popular pharmacist and social media commentator, Kawu Garba, also weighed in, noting that reactions to polygamy remain largely the same regardless of timing or circumstances. He argued that criticism often follows whether a man adds a wife early, late, during pregnancy, or long after, with detractors always finding a reason to object.
Another user, Nawas Masood, hailed Scholar’s milestones as “legendary,” pointing out that he married, welcomed twins, and took another wife all within the same year, a feat he described as “goated,” while offering his congratulations.
