R&B singer Trey Songz, born Tremaine Aldon Neverson, was arrested in Manhattan after allegedly punching a nightclub employee during a dispute over closing time.
The 41-year-old was reportedly celebrating with friends at Dramma Night Club near Times Square on December 4 when a staff member informed him the club was closing around 4:25 a.m. Prosecutors said Neverson became “unnecessarily agitated,” leading to the altercation.
Neverson was arraigned in Manhattan criminal court on Sunday, facing an assault charge linked to the nightclub incident and a separate charge of second-degree mischief for an unrelated early morning incident at Mira, a Manhattan restaurant and hookah lounge.
According to the complaint, the singer allegedly caused approximately $1,500 in damages at Mira, breaking hookahs, DJ equipment, and furniture.
Wearing a black face mask, Neverson was released on his own recognizance. The nightclub worker involved has obtained an order of protection against him, with prosecutors noting that the singer is a frequent patron of the venue.
Trey Songz’s attorney, Mitchell Schuster, stated that the confrontation was sparked when Neverson was approached by individuals who “instigated a confrontation and attempted to surround him.” He added that the singer’s security team intervened, but an altercation still occurred.
“Despite being provoked, Trey was arrested,” Schuster said. “Public figures are often targeted for headlines or financial gain. Trey is cooperating fully, and we are confident the full facts will be revealed.”
The judge granted supervised release due to Neverson’s previous legal encounters. He is scheduled to return to court on February 18.
