A 50-year-old woman, Furera Ibrahim, has died after being brutally attacked over allegations of witchcraft in the Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The incident took place on Thursday, December 4, 2025, in Kwarin Shiddi, Katuka Village, where some family members reportedly launched a violent assault on Furera.
A witness who spoke with journalists on Wednesday, December 10, said that relatives of a bedridden woman, Habiba, had consulted a native doctor, who allegedly accused Furera of being responsible for her illness.
“About ten of Habiba’s relatives stormed Furera’s home and attacked her with machetes and sticks,” the witness said.
He added that two of Furera’s sons sustained injuries while trying to protect their mother. The injured individuals were taken to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse for treatment.
The spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are currently underway.
Meanwhile, the Jigawa State Human Rights Network has strongly condemned the killing, assuring in a statement that it will work to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
