APC says US support against terror won’t undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty

Felix Morka, the national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress, said the federal government and the United States are working closely to combat terrorism in Nigeria.

Morka said during an interview on Wednesday on Arise Television that the collaboration is aimed at ending the violence that has caused widespread suffering and loss of life. “What we know is that the US government and the Nigerian authorities are coordinating very closely in any effort to defeat terror in our country,” he said.

“This is something that has brought hardship and pain and misery to our people where innocent citizens are slaughtered for no reason by these vile citizens, if they are citizens.” He said President Bola Tinubu is committed to taking all necessary steps to eliminate those responsible for the attacks.

Morka dismissed concerns that U.S. involvement could amount to a foreign invasion.

“I think the president is committed to doing whatever needs to be done to root out these people,” he said.

He acknowledged the concerns but said they are typically valid only when a host country is excluded from decision-making. The APC spokesperson said such concerns do not apply to the current collaboration between Nigeria and the United States.

“That’s not the case here. In this case, this is a closely coordinated effort between our government and the authorities in the United States,” he said.

Morka said any action taken would reflect agreements jointly reached by both governments.
