The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, bail in the sum of ₦200 million in his ongoing trial over alleged cybercrime offences.
Justice Mohammed Umar, who delivered the ruling on Tuesday, admitted Sowore to bail under strict conditions.
The court ordered the activist to produce two sureties, one of whom must be a recognised traditional ruler from his community, while the other must own landed property within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Justice Umar also directed the prosecution to verify both sureties before the bail conditions can be deemed fulfilled.
As part of the bail terms, Sowore was ordered to deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the determination of the case.
Following the ruling, the court released Sowore into the custody of his legal team to enable him perfect the bail conditions.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to July 6 for the commencement of the defence.
Sowore is facing trial on alleged cybercrime charges, which he has consistently denied.
