Supporters of Senegal and the Ivory Coast could be barred from entering the United States during the 2026 World Cup following new travel restrictions imposed by the Trump administration.
President Donald Trump recently signed a proclamation introducing partial travel bans on nationals from both countries. Although Senegal and Ivory Coast were drawn into Group I and Group E respectively in the expanded 48-team tournament earlier this month, fans from those nations may be unable to attend matches hosted on U.S. soil.
On Tuesday, the administration announced the suspension of entry for Senegalese and Ivorian nationals, extending existing restrictions already placed on travelers from Iran and Haiti both of which are also set to participate in the tournament.
The ban applies to both immigrant and non-immigrant visas, effectively preventing entry for tourism and business purposes, including travel related to attending the World Cup.
The initial order, introduced in June, was titled “Restricting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the United States from Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats.”
The restrictions are expected to impact supporters only, with exemptions in place for players, team staff, and their immediate family members.
The 2026 World Cup will take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June to July.
