The Federal Government has deployed a dedicated passport intervention team to the United Kingdom to accelerate the processing of pending, new and renewal applications for Nigerians living in the country.
The team, dispatched by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following a directive from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is expected to arrive in the UK on Monday.
It will work alongside the Nigerian High Commission to facilitate passport enrolment and processing for Nigerians across designated locations in the country.
According to a statement issued by the NIS on Sunday, the intervention team will visit selected cities across the UK as part of efforts to address outstanding passport applications and improve service delivery.
The exercise will be open to applicants with pending passport applications, first-time applicants and Nigerians whose passports have less than one year remaining before expiration and wish to renew them.
Applicants participating in the exercise are required to present their completed application forms and evidence of payment during the enrolment process.
The NIS said a comprehensive schedule detailing the cities, dates, venues, enrolment times and other arrangements would be released ahead of the exercise.
The immigration service advised applicants not to visit any location until the official schedule has been announced.
It also urged Nigerians in the UK to monitor the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission for updates and further information regarding the intervention exercise.
The initiative is expected to ease passport processing challenges faced by Nigerians in the diaspora and improve access to consular services.
