Veteran football broadcaster Richard Keys has backed John Terry as a strong contender to become Chelsea’s next manager following Enzo Maresca’s departure.
Chelsea announced on Thursday that Maresca and the club had mutually agreed to part ways, leaving the managerial role open and fueling speculation over his successor.
Keys, speaking on social media platform X, argued that the former club captain has the experience, character, and deep understanding of Chelsea’s culture to succeed, despite limited head-coaching experience.
He added that Terry could follow a similar path to Frank Lampard, noting: “If I’m a Chelsea fan, I want to see JT given a go. He’s a Chelsea man to the core—has served time elsewhere & there’s no reason he can’t do what Lampard is doing at Coventry—with better tools.”
