Legendary WWE superstar John Cena, widely regarded as the most decorated wrestler in the company’s history, has officially stepped away from in-ring competition.
Cena’s iconic wrestling career came to a close on Saturday, December 13, at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., where he competed in his farewell match.
The 17-time world champion ended his WWE journey with a submission defeat against former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther (Walter Hahn). In a historic moment, Cena was forced to tap out after Gunther locked in a sleeper hold marking Cena’s first submission loss in 21 years.
The match signaled the end of an era in professional wrestling, closing the chapter on a career defined by championships, longevity, and global impact.
