A man has allegedly shot his wife dead after she asked him to tidy up the house before they left for a trip.
According to a police citation and reports obtained by local outlet WLKY, officers responded to a shooting incident at about 4:16 p.m. on March 14, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky.
Authorities said 57-year-old Patrick Brents fatally shot his wife, Carolyn Ross-Brents, following a heated argument.
Brents claimed he had picked up the gun while attempting to leave the house, insisting it discharged accidentally.
Court documents revealed that the disagreement began after Ross-Brents asked him to clean the house before their trip, as she wanted to return to a tidy home.
The situation escalated, leading Brents to retrieve a firearm from his bedroom, according to reports.
A witness in the house, believed to be their son, reportedly pleaded with Brents not to shoot his mother, but he allegedly responded, “What are you going to do about it?”
The witness said he saw his mother collapse after being shot in the abdomen, prompting him to run outside and ask his cousin to call emergency services.
Brents remained at the scene and was later charged with domestic violence-related assault.
