The Oyo State Fire Service has recovered the bodies of two men from separate well incidents in the state, including a 45-year-old who died while attempting to rescue a goat.
The service said the first incident occurred Monday night at the Mokola area of Saki in Saki West Local Government Area. The man reportedly entered a deep well to rescue a goat but became trapped and died.
The second incident involved a 30-year-old man, Shina Adedeji, who was recovered from a well at the Aaje Ikose area of Ogbomoso in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area on Tuesday.
The Special Adviser to Gov. Seyi Makinde on Fire Reforms and Chairman of the state Fire Service, Moroof Akinwande, disclosed the incidents in a statement issued Tuesday in Ibadan.
Akinwande said the agency received a distress call at about 10:23 p.m. Monday regarding the Saki incident and immediately deployed officers to the scene, where the man was found trapped in the well.
He said fire officers secured the area and recovered the body, adding that the victim had willingly entered the well in an attempt to rescue the animal.
On the Ogbomoso incident, Akinwande said the agency received a distress call at about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters later recovered Adedeji, who had fallen into a well containing ammonia gas while attempting to retrieve a fetcher.
Akinwande urged residents to prioritize safety at all times, warning that human life is irreplaceable.
