A Nigerian man has recounted the ordeal of spending nearly three decades in prison after being wrongfully linked to the death of a friend.
He revealed that he was arrested at 19 and imprisoned after authorities accused him of involvement in the death of a man he had been sharing a room with. Despite insisting on his innocence, he remained behind bars for 29 years, eight months, and three days.
The man explained that his only connection to the case was simply being in the same room where the deceased was found—a circumstance that led to his prolonged wrongful conviction. He said, “I went to prison at the age of 19. I spent 29 years, 8 months, and three days behind bars simply because I was sleeping in a room with a friend who later died…”
Social media users reacted with shock and sympathy. One commented, “Beyond heartbreaking, this country keeps ruining lives… If they investigated properly, he would have been vindicated.” Another added, “This is why I hate our justice system. May God help this country.”
