Man suspected of facilitating sale of wife’s s3xual services to over 100 men

A man in northern Sweden is being investigated for allegedly assisting more than 100 men in purchasing sexual services from his wife, a prosecutor has said.

In Sweden, it is illegal to buy sex, though selling sexual services is not a criminal offence.

The suspect, who is in his 60s, was arrested in late October after his wife alerted police. He has remained in custody since then. Prosecutor Ida Annerstedt stated that he is suspected of facilitating and financially benefiting from the sale of his wife’s sexual services.

He has been remanded on suspicion of procuring, an offence that involves promoting or profiting from another person’s prostitution. Authorities believe the alleged conduct took place between January 2022 and his arrest last year.

Annerstedt added that investigators are looking into other potential offences but declined to give further details due to the ongoing nature of the case. She also did not say whether the woman, who is in her 50s, was forced into the arrangement.

According to the prosecutor, around 120 individuals suspected of purchasing sexual services have been identified, though it is unlikely all will be included in the main case. Separate investigations into the alleged buyers may be launched after the primary proceedings are completed.

The suspect has denied the accusations. Swedish public broadcaster SVT reported that he has previous convictions, including for assault and unlawful coercion.
