Mel Gibson, 69, and Rosalind Ross, 35, separate after 9 years

Actor Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross are parting ways after nine years together. In a joint statement to People on Tuesday, Dec. 30, the former couple said, “Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible.”

The two plan to co-parent their 8-year-old son, Lars.

Gibson, 69, and Ross, 35, who quietly ended their relationship about a year ago, first met through mutual friends in 2014 and started dating soon after. They welcomed Lars in 2017, just days before Gibson was nominated for the Best Director Oscar for Hacksaw Ridge.

Despite keeping their relationship largely private, the pair made occasional public appearances, including the 2017 Oscars and the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Gibson also has eight other children from previous relationships: seven with ex-wife Robyn Moore and one with former partner Oksana Grigorieva.
