Mohamed Salah is poised to return to Liverpool’s matchday squad for Saturday’s Premier League encounter against Brighton after what have been described as behind-the-scenes reconciliation talks with head coach Arne Slot.
The move comes just days after Salah ignited controversy with a candid post-match interview following Liverpool’s 3–3 draw with Leeds United, where he claimed he had been “thrown under the bus” and admitted he no longer had a relationship with Slot. The remarks fueled speculation about his future at Anfield and saw the Egyptian forward omitted from the squad for Tuesday’s 1–0 victory over Inter Milan.
Despite the tension, reports from The Guardian indicate that the 33-year-old has now been reinstated for the Brighton game. The recall is particularly significant as Salah is expected to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations immediately after the fixture.
Salah has not started any of Liverpool’s last four matches and has struggled for form during a challenging period for the club. Liverpool currently sit 10th in the Premier League after 15 games, a steep decline from last season when they won the title in Slot’s debut campaign.
While it is unclear whether Salah has privately apologised to Slot, sources suggest discussions have taken place, though details remain undisclosed. His comments after the Leeds match drew widespread criticism, including from club legend Jamie Carragher.
Speaking after the game, Salah expressed frustration at being left on the bench, saying it was the first time in his career he had experienced such treatment. He accused the club of breaking promises made during the summer and claimed his once-strong relationship with Slot had deteriorated.
Carragher labelled the interview unacceptable, accusing Salah and his representatives of deliberately causing disruption to strengthen his position. Despite the current issues, Salah remains one of Liverpool’s greatest players, with 250 goals and 116 assists in 420 appearances for the club.
