American actor Leonardo DiCaprio has surprised fans by revealing that he has never gone back to watch Titanic, the most iconic film of his 35-year career.
The 51-year-old Oscar winner famously starred as struggling artist Jack Dawson in James Cameron’s 1997 romantic disaster blockbuster, which grossed $2.264 billion worldwide on a $200 million budget and went on to win 11 Academy Awards.
Speaking with Jennifer Lawrence during Variety’s Actors on Actors on Wednesday, December 17, DiCaprio was asked whether he had ever rewatched Titanic. He replied, “No, I haven’t seen it in forever. Oh, you should. I bet you could watch it as a movie now it’s so good!”
Confirming that he has never revisited the nearly three-hour epic, which also starred Kate Winslet, DiCaprio added, “I don’t really watch my films. Do you?”
Lawrence responded humorously, saying she avoids watching her own work as well, though she admitted to a rare exception. “No. I’ve never made something like Titanic. If I had, I would watch it,” she joked. “Once, when I was really drunk, I put on American Hustle. I was like, ‘I wonder if I’m good at acting?’ I put it on—and I don’t remember what the answer was.”
