A Facebook post by Emmanuel Obam, a medical professional based in Makurdi, Benue State, has sparked intense debate over the state of Igede politics and leadership. In the strongly worded post, Obam criticised calls for patience with political leaders, describing such appeals as harmful to the progress of the Igede people.
Obam accused some politicians of deception, propaganda, and a lack of accountability, arguing that leaders who hide behind religious institutions to mislead the public should not be trusted. He also faulted elected officials who rely solely on federal government projects as their constituency achievements, insisting that such leaders do not genuinely serve Igede interests.
According to him, both national and subnational leaders, including political appointees who have failed to deliver meaningful impact, should be decisively removed. Obam stressed that rebuilding the Igede nation requires deliberate action, not sympathy for leaders who, in his words, have consistently underperformed.
He further questioned the sustainability of token welfare gestures, referencing the distribution of rice during Christmas and asking what plans exist for the people now that such handouts are exhausted. The post has since generated widespread reactions online, with many users echoing his frustrations while others called for more constructive political engagement.
