Cristiano Ronaldo dismissed retirement speculation after Portugal’s emotional 2–1 World Cup victory over Croatia, insisting he has no plans to step away from international football while dedicating the win to his late teammate Diogo Jota.
The 41‑year‑old captain directly addressed ‘last dance’ rumours sparked by his sister’s comments, telling Fox Sports he remains fully committed to Portugal’s campaign as long as he feels motivated.
“Your sister said this is the end,” Ronaldo was asked. He replied firmly: “I don’t make reckless decisions. I will decide after the tournament, not now.”
The knockout clash was packed with drama. Ivan Perisic put Croatia ahead in the 53rd minute, before Ronaldo equalised from the penalty spot in the 68th after a VAR review confirmed a foul on Renato Veiga.
The strike was historic, his first World Cup knockout goal, making him the oldest scorer in the stage, and drawing him level with Lionel Messi’s record of four penalties.
Though substituted late on, Ronaldo’s influence steadied Portugal before Goncalo Ramos sealed the win in stoppage time with a header from Rafael Leao’s cross.
