Atalanta head coach Raffaele Palladino said Ademola Lookman asked to leave the club.
La Dea sold the forward to Spanish side Atletico Madrid this week for 40 million euros.
Atalanta were reportedly keen to keep the Nigeria international until the end of the season. The Bergamo club however decided to sell the winger after Atletico Madrid made a suitable offer.
They rejected overtures from Inter Milan last summer which forced Lookman to submit a transfer request, and went on AWOL (Absent without leave).
There were, however, no issues this time around as Atalanta were willing to make their talisman happy.
“Lookman had this offer towards the end of the transfer session, he asked to leave and wanted a change of scenery, so the club made him happy,” Palladino told Sport Mediaset.
