Earlier posts by Nigerian singer Simi have resurfaced online, drawing criticism after social media users shared screenshots of tweets in which she made comments about Igbo people.
The tweets, dating back to 2014, were circulated widely on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend. In one post, Simi wrote, “Igbo boys just don’t have swag,” while another read, “All these oyinbo girls you keep trying to impress are actually cr@zy about boys with konk Igbo accent. What are your priorities?”
In a separate tweet referencing a football match, she commented, “Chelsea players with Igbo boy behaviour. Is this wrestling?” Many users described these remarks as perpetuating anti-Igbo stereotypes.
The resurfaced tweets have generated mixed reactions online. Some users condemned the comments as ethnically insensitive, while others pointed out that they were made more than a decade ago and emphasized that people can change and grow over time.
