“You’re poor because you chose not to marry” – Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo tells single men, sparks online debate

Relationship counselor and cleric Kingsley Okonkwo has ignited discussions online after sharing pointed advice to single men over the age of 28 regarding marriage and finances.

During a recent teaching, Okonkwo challenged the widespread notion that men delay marriage because they lack money, suggesting instead that financial growth often follows marriage.

He explained:

“If you’re a single man above 28, this isn’t a rigid rule, but generally one of the best things you can do for yourself is to marry. Many men think, ‘I’m not married because I don’t have money.’ No—the truth is, you don’t have money because you’re not married. Statistically, married people earn more than single people.”

Okonkwo emphasized that responsibility drives growth, pointing out that a single man can live comfortably on minimal resources, but a married man must level up to support a family.

“As a single man, you don’t have to make more money. But as a married man, whether you like it or not, you must earn more. And once you decide you have to provide, life brings the circumstances and resources to make it happen,” he said.

He also stressed that marriage is not primarily about money, highlighting three key factors a young man needs to marry, with financial resources not being one of them. He referenced biblical principles, noting that certain life milestones are meant to be achieved in one’s youth rather than waiting until 40.

This follows a recent controversy surrounding Okonkwo, who faced criticism for getting a tattoo to mark his birthday, which he defended as biblically supported.
