AFCON: Davido breaks silence after losing N495M following Super Eagles’ defeat

Popular Afrobeats singer, Davido, has reacted after reportedly losing a massive $348,000 (about ₦495 million) following the Super Eagles’ defeat to Morocco at the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations.

The loss came after Nigeria failed to secure victory in regulation time and extra time, eventually crashing out in a penalty shootout. Host nation Morocco triumphed 4–2 on penalties, with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou emerging as the hero of the night in the tense semi-final clash.

Before the match, Davido had publicly revealed that he placed a $50,000 bet on the Super Eagles to win, which was expected to yield a $348,000 payout if Nigeria advanced to the final. Sharing his betting slip, the singer expressed confidence in the team, stating that he would double his stake if Nigeria reached the final.

However, following the Eagles’ defeat, Davido appeared to take the loss in stride. He later shared a photo of himself relaxing over a meal of grilled fish ahead of his departure from Morocco, sparking mixed reactions from fans and social media users.

While some criticized the size of the wager, others brushed it off as a minor loss for the superstar, with a few suggesting the bet was simply promotional.
