U.S. lawmaker Congressman Riley Moore, who represents Virginia’s Second District in the House of Representatives, has announced his arrival in Nigeria for what he described as a series of “productive” engagements.
Moore revealed his visit in a post shared on Sunday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that he arrived in Nigeria “in the name of the Lord” and on behalf of the American people.
He wrote:
“I came to Nigeria in the name of the Lord and on behalf of the American people. Just ending a very productive visit to Nigeria and rounds of meetings. More details to come. Happy Sunday. God is Great!”
Although he did not disclose the specific purpose of his trip, Moore’s visit coincides with ongoing calls by some U.S. lawmakers for expanded investigations into alleged genocide and widespread attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria.
The Nigerian government has repeatedly denied claims of targeted religious persecution, but several members of the U.S. Congress insist that Islamic extremist groups are responsible for systematic violence against Christians across the country.
Moore has been one of the voices calling attention to the issue, insisting that the situation requires international focus and intervention.
As Moore concludes his meetings, more information is expected about the nature and outcome of his visit, especially regarding the ongoing discussions on religious violence in Nigeria.
