A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kano on Thursday ordered the remand of three men accused of killing a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters.
The defendants—Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters—were arraigned on an eight-count charge, including conspiracy, criminal trespass, robbery, culpable homicide, rape, mischief by fire, possession of dangerous weapons, and inflicting injuries.
The prosecutor and Kano State Attorney General, Abdulkarim Maude, SAN, told the court that the offences allegedly occurred on Jan. 17, 2026, at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters. He said Auwalu, reportedly the nephew of the deceased, conspired with the other defendants to unlawfully enter the victim’s home, killing her and her six children.
Maude also alleged the trio were involved in a similar attack in November 2025 at Tudun Yola Quarters, where two housewives were robbed, murdered, and their bodies set on fire. The offences contravene Sections 97, 221, 283, 298, 319, 336, and 348 of the Penal Code.
In a related case, the court ordered the remand of Umar Ali, accused of removing the eyes of a nine-year-old girl allegedly assaulted by the first defendant.
All defendants pleaded not guilty. Counsel A. S. Tunkuye requested the court, under Section 36(5)(c), to direct the Attorney General to provide defence access to case files.
Chief Magistrate Auwal Yusuf-Suleiman ordered the defendants remanded in a correctional facility and instructed the prosecution to make all relevant case materials available to the defence.
The case was adjourned to March 11, 2026, for further mention.
