The Federal Government has unveiled the programme of activities for the 2026 Democracy Day celebration scheduled for June 12.
Announcing the lineup, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, described Democracy Day as an important occasion for reflecting on the sacrifices made by Nigerians in the struggle to restore democratic governance.
He noted that the day is dedicated to honouring the heroes of the June 12, 1993 democratic movement, particularly the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola.
Akume added that the commemoration provides an opportunity for the government to highlight its efforts in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting national development amid current socio-economic challenges.
