The Taraba State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Mr. Haggai Ishaku over allegations of assaulting his daughter, Rachael Haggai Ishaku.
The minor reportedly suffered severe injuries, including a fractured hand, following the alleged attack at their home behind the NLC Secretariat near Shimo FM. The arrest came after the intervention of human rights activist Abdulmumin Imam.
The incident, which has sparked public outrage, was allegedly linked to the girl’s attendance at a church crossover service. Mr. Ishaku is currently being held at the GRA Police Division in Jalingo.
During interrogation, the suspect claimed he had cautioned his daughter against associating with boys, insisting she was too young to have a boyfriend. He also alleged that she did not attend a church crossover service on New Year’s Eve but went elsewhere.
However, the girl denied the claims, telling Imam and the police that she attended the crossover night service as stated. She further alleged that her father routinely restrains them before beating them.
