The Nigerian Army has opened applications for its Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29/2026, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for officer roles in selected professional corps.
The announcement, made on Tuesday via the Army’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stated that the recruitment exercise will run from January 7 to February 4, 2026. The Army emphasized that the application process is free and entirely online, warning applicants to beware of fraudsters and unauthorized agents.
The DSSC programme is open to both civilians and serving military personnel with relevant academic and professional qualifications. The initiative aims to strengthen the Army’s officer cadre by attracting skilled professionals to support operational, technical, and support services, particularly targeting doctors, engineers, and ICT experts.
Applicants must be Nigerian citizens aged 20–32 by March 30, 2026, while medical consultants can be up to 40. Candidates are required to be physically, mentally, and medically fit, hold a minimum of a second-class upper degree or upper credit HND, and have completed NYSC or possess a valid exemption. Serving personnel must have been officially sponsored to civil institutions by the Armed Forces.
Interested candidates can apply via the official Nigerian Army recruitment portal at recruitment.army.mil.ng, selecting the DSSC option, completing the online form, and uploading all required documents. The recruitment drive comes as part of broader efforts to enhance national security following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a security emergency in November 2025.
