The Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria has announced plans for a nationwide n@ked protest to press for the payment of outstanding pension increment arrears and palliative allowances owed to its members.
The coalition’s National Chairman, Mr. Mukaila Ogunbote—who also heads the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NIPOST Chapter—disclosed this in a statement on Friday, Dec. 5, in Lagos.
He said the protest is scheduled for Dec. 8 unless the Federal Government settles the arrears of the N32,000 pension increment and the N25,000 palliative allowance approved in 2023.
According to him, the demonstration will be held in Abuja, Lagos, and all other states.
“The Federal Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General are not taking us seriously; therefore, all pensioners must come out en masse to fight against this injustice,” he stated.
He added that the protest would be staged at the offices of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate as well as in front of Nigeria Television Authority stations. He urged leaders of all affiliated organisations to mobilise their members.
He continued: “We must reveal the wounds our clothes have been covering. The protest will continue until we receive alerts for the N32,000 pension increment and the N25,000 for six months.
“Those who cannot leave and return the same day should come with mats.
“All pensioners must come out and fight for their rights.”
