One suspected armed robber has been arrested following a foiled robbery attempt in Abuja’s Kado area, the FCT Police Command has confirmed.
According to SP Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, a distress call was received at Mabushi Divisional Headquarters on Friday, January 23, at about 6:15 a.m., reporting that three armed robbers were attacking motorists near MRS Filling Station.
Adeh said a police team from Mabushi Division promptly responded. On seeing the officers, the suspects attempted to flee, triggering a chase and an exchange of gunfire. One suspect was injured and taken to a nearby hospital, while the others escaped into surrounding bushes.
Recovered at the scene were the suspects’ vehicle—a black Volkswagen Golf 2 (registration JJJ 112 DW)—a Barreta pistol, a locally made pistol, a Firman generator, two mobile phones (Tecno Spark 4 and Tecno T353), an Access Bank ATM card, a catapult, pliers, shoes, slippers, and various clothing items including a singlet, jacket, T-shirt, cap, and handkerchief.
She added that efforts are currently ongoing to apprehend the other fleeing suspects.
