Spotify Names MOLIY EQUAL Artiste for January 2026

Ghanaian star MOLIY has been spotlighted as Spotify’s EQUAL Africa Artist of the Month for January 2026, taking center stage as a leading voice in Africa’s creative rise. She also features on the cover of the EQUAL Global playlist, symbolizing the growing influence of African women in shaping global music culture.

Renowned for her captivating mix of Afro-pop, Afro-fusion, and dancehall, MOLIY delivers a sound that is both playful and purposeful—gentle yet commanding. Her music blends emotion with movement, earning her an expanding international fan base.

Born and raised in Ghana, MOLIY’s path into music grew from simple curiosity into a full-fledged calling. Influenced by iconic Ghanaian artists such as Daddy Lumba, Rex Omar, R2Bees, and 4×4, as well as bold female trailblazers like Ebony, Eazzy, Itz Tiffany, and Sister Deborah, she was shaped by voices that celebrate confidence, self-expression, and individuality.

Her career reached a major milestone in December 2024 with the release of her breakout single, “Shake It To The Max (FLY).” The track went viral, becoming an international hit and firmly establishing her as part of a new wave of African women with global ambition. This rise was further reflected in Spotify Wrapped 2025, where she emerged as the most-exported Ghanaian artist.

Beyond her music, MOLIY embodies a cultural shift in how African women are represented. Through her visuals, performances, and personal style, she champions femininity, freedom, and authenticity, inspiring young women to confidently claim their space.

Spotify’s EQUAL Africa initiative continues to amplify women’s voices, and MOLIY’s recognition highlights the vital role African women play in influencing global sound and culture.

“MOLIY sits confidently at the crossroads of African pop and global culture,” said Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa. “Her music represents a generation that is fluid, expressive, and unconstrained by borders, making her a standout voice within EQUAL Africa.”
