A cement-laden truck collided with a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer and two commercial motorcyclists, killing them instantly at the busy Badagry Roundabout.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026.
An eyewitness said the truck was approaching the junction at high speed when it suddenly lost control, veered off its lane, and struck the victims.
“The LASTMA officer was directing traffic when the truck lost control and crushed him on the spot,” the witness told Punch. “The two motorcyclists were also hit while waiting to pick up passengers.”
A police source said the crash caused significant traffic gridlock in the area. “Other LASTMA officials were deployed to the scene to assist their affected colleague. Our officers, along with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Federal Road Safety Corps, were on the ground to manage the situation,” the source added.
Authorities confirmed that the truck driver was immediately apprehended and taken into custody. The victims’ remains were evacuated to a hospital mortuary, and the vehicle was impounded for further investigation.
The unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Yusuf Sanni, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria, stating that the crash was caused by loss of control. “The driver has been taken to Badagry Police Station. Motorists are advised to avoid the area,” Sanni said.
CSP Folajimi Agosile, Divisional Police Officer of Badagry Police Station, also confirmed that the driver remains in detention pending prosecution.
“He will be arraigned at the Chief Magistrates’ Court once investigations are concluded,” Agosile said.
