Zenith Bank has confirmed that it experienced a cybersecurity breach in which hackers gained access to limited customer information.
In a notice sent to customers on Tuesday, the bank disclosed that the cyberattack exposed certain customer details, including email addresses and phone numbers, as part of a broader global cyber campaign targeting organisations across multiple sectors.
The financial institution, however, assured customers that its core banking systems, digital platforms and financial services remain secure and fully operational.
According to the bank, its cybersecurity response protocols were immediately activated after the incident was detected, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the breach.
Zenith Bank advised customers to remain alert against phishing emails, fraudulent text messages and suspicious phone calls, urging them never to disclose sensitive information such as passwords, PINs, One-Time Passwords (OTPs) or other security credentials.
The bank reiterated its commitment to safeguarding customer data and maintaining the highest standards of cybersecurity.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over cyber threats in Nigeria’s banking sector. In 2024, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) also reported an attempted cyberattack on its website, while the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has repeatedly warned the public about fraudulent emails and messages designed to steal personal and financial information.
