A prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has criticised the way Nigerian politicians rely on zoning as a major strategy for winning presidential elections in the country.
Momodu made the remarks on Tuesday during a live interview on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television.
The Ovation Magazine publisher argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu understand that without promoting the zoning narrative, their chances of securing victory would be uncertain.
According to him, the idea of zoning distracts Nigerians from the real issues affecting the country.
“Politicians now treat zoning as the only credential needed to win presidential elections.
“It’s a distraction, and I can say it without any fear of contradiction, that it is not what we need at this time.
“Winning an election is about strategy. However, those who want zoning have the right to their choices,” he said.
