FCT Police announce 12-Hour movement ban for Abuja Area Council Polls

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has declared a 12-hour restriction of movement across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of Saturday’s Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.

Commissioner of Police Miller Dantawaye said the restriction will run from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and orderly voting process.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, residents were informed that the directive covers all persons within the territory, with the exception of essential service providers and duly accredited election officials.

“The restriction will apply to all residents except essential service providers and duly accredited election officials,” she said.

The police urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of security personnel deployed for the exercise, stressing the importance of collective cooperation in delivering a safe, free, and credible election.

Members of the public were also advised to report suspicious individuals or activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
