Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally announced his defection to the Accord Party, just days after resigning from the PDP, confirming that he will seek a second term in office under the party’s “thumb up” symbol.
Adeleke made the declaration on Tuesday, December 9, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, where he was received by national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
The governor revealed that he had secretly joined the party weeks earlier, on November 6, after extensive consultations with stakeholders and community leaders.
According to him, the decision was driven by the alignment between the Accord Party’s philosophy of welfarism and his administration’s dedication to citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
He said the move was necessary to continue his government’s ongoing projects and expand the delivery of good governance across the state.
Adeleke emphasized unity as Osun heads toward the 2026 election, urging party members and residents to maintain a collective front for progress.
He praised the Accord Party’s people-focused ideology and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing welfare, infrastructure, and social services.
The governor expressed confidence that the Accord Party would lead Osun to “victory” in the August 2026 poll, declaring it the new platform for the state’s future.
The Accord Party’s national chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, officially welcomed Adeleke and pledged the party’s full support for his re-election bid.
