Police arrest popular TikToker Peller over reckless driving

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following the circulation of a viral video showing him driving recklessly and crashing his vehicle during a live broadcast.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, and made available to PUNCH Online. Police said the incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and triggered widespread public concern.

According to the command, the influencer’s actions posed a significant risk to public safety, prompting immediate intervention.

The police said Peller was seen driving dangerously, resulting in a serious crash while live streaming, an act that endangered both his life and those of other road users. Authorities described the behaviour as highly irresponsible and warned that it could have had fatal consequences.

The command further stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation. Police said the outcome of the inquiry would be made public and that the suspect would be charged in court in line with the law.

Reacting to the incident, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers and the public, cautioning against using online platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or illegal activities.

He stressed that such conduct would not be tolerated, adding that the police would enforce the law without fear or favour. The command also urged motorists to strictly obey traffic regulations as part of efforts to safeguard lives and maintain public order.

The incident has reignited debate over the growing trend of dangerous stunts by content creators seeking online attention, with many Nigerians calling for stricter enforcement to deter similar acts.

Police authorities reiterated that anyone found engaging in actions that endanger lives would be prosecuted, regardless of their social status or online following, as part of ongoing efforts to curb reckless behaviour on Lagos roads.
